From a Continent to an Island-Australian Aboriginal Art Exhibition
Exhibit8 gallery in Limassol hosts the exhibition From a Continent to an Island, organized by Cathrine art organization. The exhibition showcases part of an exceptional and important collection of paintings on bark, created by Indigenous Australians from Arnhem Land in northern Australia. The opening event will be held by the Australian High Commissioner in Cyprus, Ms Fiona McKergow, on Friday, 12 of January, at 19.30, while the exhibition will last till the 3rd of February.
The curator Nadine Berthelier describes the universe of the exhibition From a Continent to an Island as “one full of myths about the creation of the Aboriginal world, the Dreamtime, which the people of Arnhem Land have recorded on eucalyptus bark. The creator ancestors bequeathed the land to people and tasked them to conserve it in order to live in harmony with it. This wise directive which our contemporary civilisation is only now rediscovering, can hardly be found anywhere but in these conserved territories. For over 20,000 years, it has been an insider’s job to tell the countless founding myths of Arnhem Land from generation to generation.
The exhibition is realised with the support of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Australian High Commission in Cyprus and the opening event is sponsored by Scope Enterprises.

Beneath the Horizon – Fanos Avouris – Photography Exhibition
Exhibit8 gallery in Limassol organizes the solo underwater photography exhibition of Fanos Avouris, titled “Beneath the Horizon: From Akamas to Apostolos Andreas”. The documentation of the Cypriot underwater landscape allows Avouris to revise the boundaries between space and time via the act and sense of travelling. The exhibition presents a contemporary expedition in locations such as Akamas, Kyrenia and Famagusta. The same places become a point of departure for a journey through time that invites the visitors to wander through the memories and the personal mythology of Avouris about the Cypriot seascape.
The opening event will be held by Aristos Aristeidou, owner and editor-in-chief of the Cyprus Yachting& The Cyprus Fishing magazines and organizer of the Limassol Boat Show, on Friday, July 28 at 19.30, while the exhibition will last till the 26th of August.
An unexplored place, yet imperatively present in human life, the sea is a territory of common symbolisms and a liquid monument on which personal and collective history emerge as entangled. Starting from a short retrospection on the evolution of the practice and equipment of free diving, the exhibition presents photographs of impressive underwater landmarks of the Cypriot coastline. The images of the seabed captured by Fanos Avouris conversate with the visitors in an emotionally charged context that conveys loss, nostalgia and the questions left behind by the invasion of 1974. Colours and aquatic shapes merge with the traces created by the long human activity on the sea as well as with the delight of exploring an endless underwater cosmos.
At the exhibition “Beneath the Horizon: From Akamas to Apostolos Andreas”, the experience of freediving and photography as an art medium transform into navigation tools before innermost questions.
How can we appropriate the endless? How do we preserve in our memory something under constant motion and change? How do we capture a fluid element?
Fanos Avouris was born in Limassol in 1991 and comes from Κaravas village of the occupied Kyrenia province and from Zakynthos. He is freediving from a young age and during 2015 and 2022 he was part of the team that organized the world championship of free diving under the auspices of AIDA INTERNATIONAL. He works with underwater photography since 2014 and he has been awarded in photography competitions by the Cyprus Youth Board. He has participated in group exhibitions in Nicosia, Larnaka and Limassol while he is a permanent exhibitor at the Limassol Boat Show. During the last few years, his photographic work has been devoted to the exploration of the areas that his grandfather used to dive till 1974.
Открытие проведет Аристос Аристейду, владелец и главный редактор журналов Cyprus Yachting и The Cyprus Fishing, а также организатор Limassol Boat Show, в пятницу 28 июля, в 19.30.

Marina Hadjiefthimiou – Solo Art Exhibition
“There are eyes at the tips of my fingers.”
Exhibit8 gallery in Limassol organizes “There are eyes at the tips of my fingers”, the first solo exhibition by the Cypriot artist Marina Hadjiefthimiou. The work presented composes a visual translation of perceptions, mental and sentimental states as the subject of the exhibition is the artistic rendering of questions concerning the sense of existing and being present in the world. The exhibition will open on Friday 28 of April and will last till the 13th of May.
Phenomenology is the theoretical background which informs the artist’s work. The perceiving body and its perceived world are approached as inextricably entangled entities. Marina Hadjiefthimiou attempts to convey in artistic output the sense of bodily matter and intangible being.
More specifically, the exhibition concerns the sense of ephemerality, protectiveness, fragility or strength of the human body, the sensation of being in the world, of sharing the same world with others. The purpose is to create a meeting point where common human feelings are roused, to evoke empathy through a deeply sensorial presentation of artistic matter. The visual and the tangible become one and diffuse into space inviting the viewer to a haptic and experiential engagement and apprehension of the work.
“There are eyes at the tips of my fingers” includes works of various formats and materials like painted glassine vellum paper sculpture in an installation format and sculptural work made with clay or liquid glass. The material qualities and manipulation stand for and give reference to certain sensations. There is an interplay between concepts, media and processes of work so that an incorporated meaning is attributed. The viewer can walk through and around the work, engage with it and apprehend it experientially.
The artworks exhibited appear as abstract objects, anonymous in appearance, and have a strong material presence that bears witness to the creative process and stimulates bodily senses. The exhibition is accompanied by an ASMR soundscape that functions as a starting point for the expansion of the viewer’s sensorial possibilities.
The artist
Marina Hadjiefthimiou is a graduate of BA Fine Art (Hons) and also holds a Psychology BSc and MSc degree. She has a special interest in the artistic rendering of the personal human experience, using various methods and materials, inviting the viewer to a meeting point of communication and identification.
The opening event will be held on Friday 28 of April, at 19.30, by Maria Kouvarou, Doctor of Musicology and Writer
Sponsor of the opening event is Ezousa Winery and Ghalanos distributors.

Is emotion a purely personal experience or is it involved in broader socio-political processes, in the making of history it-shelf? If so, are intimate, public and mass-scale emotions distinct categories or they are experienced in a constant flux?
Art has always been one of the oldest and most profound mediums of expressing and producing emotion in public.
The exhibition aspires to present a discussion on how art shapes the emotion-scapes of today. Through their artworks, artists are called to reflect on the role that emotion plays in their creations and the possible interplays between personal and social feelings.

Yury Peshkov Solo Art Exhibition
“Cyprus in Black & White”
Solo art exhibition by Yury Peshkov at Exhibit8 gallery in Limassol.
Duration: 16 December – 7 January
The opening event of the exhibition “Cyprus in Black and White”, will be held on Friday, December 16, at 19.30 by Natalia Kardash, Publisher, Editor-in- Chief, Vestnik Kipra, Founder, Successful business Leaders’ Club.
The exhibition “Cyprus in Black and White” works as a tribute to Cypriot sceneries and the beauty of the fleeting moment. Yury Peshkov captures the local surroundings with affection that celebrates even the most ordinary details. Still views of nature, monuments and the city present a fixed and yet in constant movement world.
The artworks of the exhibition are created with the “Dry brush” technique which is considered a fine line between drawing and painting. Commonly, a bristle brush is used to apply pure oil paint pigment without an oil binder and a hard eraser can create highlights. A time-consuming technique that requires accurate execution from the artist but at the same time offers expressiveness, lightness, and volume. Dry brush perfectly reproduces the effect of black and white photography and even the effect of airbrushing in the drawing.
Yury Peshkov was born in Leningrad in 1963. He grew up in an artistic environment and graduated from art school in Zviezdny City in 1980. In his youth, his favourite pastime was to make sketches in the open air with pencil and charcoal, drawing on every piece of paper.

Duration: 11 November – 10 December. The opening event of the art exhibition “Objets de mémoire”, will be held on Friday, November 11, at 19.30
The exhibition “Objets de mémoire” presents the artworks of two eminent Greek artists, Alexandros Chairetakis and Elli Lyraraki. The French title of the exhbition is a direct reference to the notion of “memory spaces” of Pierre Nora. In a similar manner to Nora’s spaces, the two artists create objects, shapes and sceneries that reflect the inextricable connection between memory and the realm of the symbolic.
The section of Alexandros Chairetakis’ artworks includes realistic still life oil paintings while at times objects are placed in an impressionistic background.
The artworks of Elli Lyraraki consist of modern abstract compositions with acrylics. The main expressive mediums are geometry, colour and free writing. The artist is inspired by the longstanding tradition of her place of origin, Crete, and mostly from the Minoan culture, a culture rich in images and patterns.
Alexandros Chairetakis was born in Athens in 1959. He studied at the schools of Fine Arts in Athens, Paris and Berlin. He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece. His works are found in public, corporate, bank and private collections in Greece and abroad. He has created artworks for poem collections and literature editions. His art exhibitions began in 1985. Until today he has attended many group exhibitions and solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad. His work has received international recognition.
Elli Lyraraki was born and raised in Athens. She studied music and Interior design. In recent years, Elli has been living permanently in her place of origin, in Crete. Solo Art Exhibition Tess Turner – ‘The Eternal Landscapes’
Solo Art Exhibition Tess Turner, ‘The Internal Landscapes’, 3rd of June 2022 – 30th of June 2022, at Exhibit 8 Gallery
The opening event of the Exhibition ‘The Internal Landscapes’ was held on Friday, the 3rd of June at 20:00 at Exhibit 8. The opening speech was held by Mr. Andreas Vryonides. The exhibition will last until the 30th of June 2022.
BIO:
Tess Turner grew up on the island of Cyprus. Her travels during the early part of her life took her throughout Europe and later to the USA and the Middle East. Traveling became the beginning and foundation of her education in art. Apart from her little island which has so much ancient history, from mosaics to old streets to the turquoise sea that surrounds it, her travels to other countries have woken the sleeping giant. Wanting to capture what she sees and share it as her own vision defines her as an artist with her own extraordinary style.
Her talent and ability were recognized by renowned artist Stefan Bauman, who has become her coach and adviser as she continues her artistic career. In 2007 she opened her own studio and began creating as a professional artist. Since then, she has been invited to show her art at Fine Art exhibitions and galleries in Cyprus, Italy, and Boston Massachusetts USA.
“My paintings are full of passion and mood, and invite the viewer to experience a world of contemporary landscape expressionism.” To achieve the results she strives for, she uses a precise color palette directly reflective of the message she wishes to impart on the viewer. Tess works primarily in oil using a brush and palette knife to create her noteworthy pieces.
Artist’s statement
“I capture the effect of light and shadow on my subjects and use this to create and invite interpretation of my work. I have been told that my art is something the viewer would… “want to step into”.
As a Plein air painter, I am drawn to the tapestry of shapes and color found in the villages of Cyprus, and, this mosaic of hews and tones are what I try to convey in my paintings. The light can change the mood of the houses and surroundings in an instant, and to capture it at the perfect moment is what I strive for, and to put this on canvas is my goal.

In 2017, she participated in Beijing’s Biennale with her artwork Iris Bostrensis, Silk Road. The artwork was selected to be part of the ‘National Art Museum of China’ collection.
Artist’s statement
Through her solo exhibition, Georgia Michaelides Saad aims to explore the natural forms; the flowers in particular. According to the artist, the flowers are a representation of the microcosm in relation to the macrocosm, the finite as expressive of the infinite. Flowers have also been associated with a long-standing tradition which connects them to female sexuality as many of them resemble in form the female genitalia. This association has been given to her flowers as well. Although, through her artworks she illustrates flowers with great detail and through an enlarged view point of them. Through this method, the artist aims to transmit the feeling of awe and mystery, which she has experienced before, even from the minutest forms of nature.
